Blockchain technology: Why journalists need to pay attention

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
The aims at introducing blockchain technology, which emerged from the creation of bitcoin, to data journalists in a straight-forward manner and highlight why it is important for them to pay attention to what is going in that realm and reflect upon some of the recent attempts to use blockchain technology to improve journalism and even recreate it. Examples of such initiatives are:
- Decentralized News Network (https://dnn.media)
- Publicism (http://www.publicism.nl/)
- Civil (https://joincivil.com), PressCoin (https://presscoin.com)
- Snip (https://www.snip.today)

We have two remote speakers representing one of those initiatives, namely Samit Singh and Dondrey Taylor of DNN who will be interviewed  via Skype during the session.

The session aims at asking if/how blockchain technology as a distributed database system could indeed help enhance or even transforming journalism for example in enhancing detection of fake news, decentralising newsrooms, empowering journalists' ability to analyse data, optimise expenses for news making, etc.

The aim is to bring up the topic for debate to elicit ideas and generate new questions that could be translated into in-depth research and ideas for collaboration and partnerships going forward.
